The Joys Of Being A Republic

Isn’t it great being a republic. We don’t have roaylty hogging the public holidays and Christmas eve television programming… What’s that? We do have royalty you say? Well yes you’re obviously referring to King Goodwill Zwelithini, Chief of the Zulu, but he is more of a cultural leader, not one to be a burden on his people… Six million rand you say? For armoured waBenzi? For each queen? And R300 000 for medical aid? Well I guess those are vitals needed in todays day and age… Are sheets a vital need? Well yes of course, everyone needs a nice bed… Yes I’m sure I’d also sleep nicely on sheets costing R280 000.

Well, hell, there must be at least 6 million Zulus in KZN who love their king enough for each to contribute R1 towards towards keeping him in the style to which he has become so very much accustomed … sheesh …

Now thats classic! I remember when he got the Mercedes-Benz S500 and the outcry that followed. All kinds of excuses and rationalisations were given about why such an extravagance was needed, now we learn the fine car is inapproprite for the kings needs. Well boo-friggin-hoo, why should the rest of us have to pay for his lack of foresight!

Those must be some good sheets though!
