SACP Discusses Going It Alone... Again 3

Looks like the SACP are still deliberating whether or not to split from the tri-partite alliance and contest elections on their own. They’ve been wringing their hands over this for months now and will only make a firm decision about it in July 2007.

    Who cares what their decision will be? Most of their top structure would not cross the floor to the SACP (why would they? – they’re all very cozy in their positions as Ministers and Deputy Ministers), which means they’d have very little state funding. They’d also be unable to raise any money from business, which means no real election campaign (the ANC spent R100million on their 2004 campaign). They’d probably come in somewhere between the UDM and ID, should they scrape together the courage to cut the umbilical cord…
